A Careful Second Reader for Work That Has to Be Right
You cannot proofread your own work properly. Not because you lack the skill, but because you know what the sentence was supposed to say, and your brain supplies it whether or not the words on the page do. This is why errors survive four read throughs and then appear immediately to somebody else.
Our proofreading and editing service gives you that somebody else. A trained reader who has never seen the document, going through it line by line with no assumptions about what you meant.
Proofreading and editing are often treated as the same service. They are not, and paying for the wrong one is a common waste of money. Proofreading is the final surface pass. Editing changes how the writing works. Structural editing changes how the document is organised.
When you send us a document we tell you which level it actually needs before quoting, and if a light proofread is genuinely enough we will say so rather than upselling you to something heavier.
Proofreading. The final pass before submission or publication, on a document you consider finished. We correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, typos and formatting inconsistencies. We do not rewrite sentences or restructure anything. Choose this when the content and structure are settled and you want it clean.
Copy editing. Everything in a proofread plus improvements to the writing itself. Wordy sentences tightened, repetition removed, awkward phrasing fixed, transitions between paragraphs improved, and passive constructions changed where the active is clearer. The argument stays yours. This is the level most academic work benefits from.
Structural editing. The deepest level, addressing how the document is organised. We may recommend moving sections, cutting material that does not serve the argument, expanding underdeveloped points, or reordering chapters. Choose this when you suspect the problem is the shape of the document rather than the sentences.
Formatting only. If the writing is fine but the document has to match a strict template, we can do formatting compliance as a standalone job.
Academic work. Essays, assignments, dissertations, theses, research papers and journal submissions. We know the referencing styles and the formatting conventions departments actually enforce.
Business documents. Reports, proposals, tenders, policy documents and internal communications, where a typo in the executive summary costs credibility that the content cannot recover.
Website and marketing copy. Where errors are public, permanent and seen by every visitor.
Books and long form. Non fiction manuscripts, guides and reports, where consistency across a long document is the main challenge.
Work by non native English writers. A significant part of what we do. We correct the grammar and idiom that mark text as non native while carefully preserving your voice and your argument. The result should sound like you writing well, not like somebody else.
CVs and applications. Short documents where every line is scrutinised and small errors are disproportionately costly.
Being clear about the limits is part of an honest service.
We will not rewrite your argument. Editing improves how clearly your thinking comes across. It does not replace your thinking with ours. If the underlying argument has a problem we will flag it in a comment and leave the decision to you.
We will not add content. If a section is thin, we will tell you it is thin. Writing new material is a separate service with a separate price.
We will not silently change meaning. Where a sentence is ambiguous, we query it rather than guessing. You will see a comment asking which of two readings you intended.
We will not exceed your institution’s rules. Many universities set explicit limits on what a proofreader may change. Send us the policy and we will work inside it, which protects you.
Send the document. Upload it with your deadline, your required style guide, and any institutional proofreading policy that applies. Tell us if you have particular concerns.
We assess and quote. We read a sample, tell you which service level the document actually needs, and send an exact price within four to six hours. Pricing is based on word count, level and turnaround.
Editing with tracked changes. You get the document back with every change visible and comments where we have queried something. Nothing is altered invisibly.
Review and follow up. Accept or reject each change as you prefer. If anything is unclear, ask, and the editor who worked on it will answer.
How fast can you turn it around? A typical essay is next day. A full dissertation usually needs three to five days for a proper job. We do offer express turnaround at a premium.
Is proofreading allowed on my dissertation? Most universities permit it within defined limits, and many actively recommend it. Send us your institution’s policy and we will work strictly inside it.
Will you fix my referencing? Yes. We check every in text citation against the reference list, flag anything missing, and format both to your required style.
Do you use software to edit? We use tools to catch mechanical errors, but the actual editing is done by a person. Automated tools miss context, tone and meaning, which is where most real problems live.
Can you work in my document’s language conventions? Yes. Tell us whether you need UK, US, Australian or Canadian conventions and we will apply them consistently throughout.
What if I disagree with an edit? Reject it. Everything comes as a tracked change precisely so that you decide. It is your document.
Upload your work and tell us your deadline. We will tell you which service level it needs and give you an exact price within four to six hours. Nothing is charged until you approve it.
